the lights change
from green to amber -
falling leaves

autumn deepens -
my neighbour
practicing the drums

[With apologies to Basho]

a different route
but still the wind
follows me home

in the gutter
yesterday's rain
and a cut rose

where I saw
the roadkill squirrel -
sunset reds

too overcast
for stars tonight I wish
on the moon

autumn sunshine -
an old gift
gathers dust

autumn dejection -
a watery layer on top
of curdled milk

mooncake day -
still so many things
untasted

I want to take
this crude ache and twist it
bend it, force it
into a shape so exquisite
that I can make a gift of it

autumn wind -
I step on this leaf
and not that

Haiku articles

On my writing group blog - Cabbage Soup - I've posted about some haiku articles I had published a while back: The Alchemy of Haiku, originally published in Blithe Spirit and Haiku Lessons, originally published in Yellow Moon.
