Wow, that is horribly poignant. I don't know how I would feel if I couldn't hear birdsong each day, and pretty near to me.

I like this haiku because we so often overlook the power of birdsong to make us feel human. It often takes a life-threatening event to make us notice this simple and free thing called birdsong.
