indulgent weekend
defrosting the fridge -
heatwave
with just a casual
movement of my hand

I conjure up
a painful memory
evening sun
on the war memorial
fading graffiti
wanting
and not wanting
to know
how the story

golden iris
coming into bloom -

the screams of swifts
at the end
of another working day -
a balmy night
low sun
a child throws dust
into the fountain
no hopes, no plans
just these feet
on summer grass
the wren -
much smaller
than it's song
three roses
tinged with apricot
